Childcare students at Banbury's North Oxfordshire College are being taught the correct way to fit child car seats.
Julie Jones, Oxfordshire County Council's road safety officer, said: "Previous checks revealed that up to four out of five child seats are fitted incorrectly, and we are stepping up our efforts to reduce death and injury to car passengers.
"With about 120 different seats on the market and none of them guaranteed to fit every make of car, parents need help to fit them correctly."
She was at the college on Tuesday after tutor Barbara Saunders invited her to provide 'sit tight' training as part of the childcare course.
Tomorrow, Mrs Jones and the newly-trained students are giving free advice and safety checks to parents collecting their offspring from the college's children's centre.
