Witney & District FA round-up

JOHN Crump hit a spectacular winner as Eynsham A, from Division 3, produced the shock of the Fred Ford Cup first round by dumping out Premier Division Stonesfield 2-1, writes JOHN SMYTH.

Simon Tombs fired Eynsham into a first-half lead, but they were pegged back early in the second period by Dave Holloway.

However, Crump settled the tie with an acrobatic overhead kick from the edge of the box.

Another shock saw Division 2 side Wootton Sports knock out Premier Division North Leigh A 1-0.

Wootton's winner came ten minutes after the break when Heath Freeman toe-poked the ball home.

Division 3 side Finstock swept aside West Witney 3-1.

The sides went into the break level after Matt Townsend cancelled out Gary Pimm's opener for Finstock.

But Finstock dominated the second half, and deservedly went through with goals from Andy Compton and Nick Forrester.

Second division FC Mills also sprang a surprise by dispatching Hailey 3-0.

Pete Claridge and Graham Clitheroe put Mills into a two-goal lead at the break, and Jake Bassi added a third in the second half.

Two goals in extra time by 45-year-old Graham Empson were good enough to help Charlbury see off FC Nomads 3-1.

Andy Woodley had earlier put Charlbury into the lead, with Richard Hobbs replying for Nomads.

There was big a surprise in the Jack Busby Cup first round as unfancied Carterton Rangers Res dumped out Ducklington Res 5-2.

Danny Russell hit a hat-trick, with Simon Launder netting a brace. Dean O'Sullivan and Mark Jewell were on target for Ducklington.
