Headington Roadrunners toasted a double victory in the Hanney 5 road race, when Richard Bromley and Allison Hirst both struck gold, writes KIEREN BUSHNELL.
Bromley won a close battle with Woodstock Harriers' Simon Lund to take the men's title, crossing the line in 26mins 22secs.
Hirst took the womens title in some style, winning in 29.06 and setting a new veteran womens course record in the process.
In the men's race, Lund finished second just ahead of the leading Vet 45 runner Tim Hughes, of White Horse Harriers, and with fellow Woodstock runners Dave Ashton, Richard Beaumont, Bryan Vaughan and Tony Hunn all following close behind, the West Oxfordshire quintet comfortably took home the team prize.
Oxford City runner Gareth Jones was the leading Vet 55 runner, coming home in 19th place in a time of 28.52, while the first Vet 60 runner to finish was Newbury's Robin Morris in 60th.
Hirst won the women's race and finished in 22nd overall, followed home by Oxford City's Sue Ogilvie, who finished 48th overall just ahead of Headington's Joanne Choulerton.
With Helen Higgs close behind, it ensured Headington won the women's team race.
Elsewhere, Witney Road Runner Rosie Newell won the female Vet 55 category in a time of 41.39.
