Old Headington staved off a tremendous fightback to pip Oxford Community Church 4-3 in their opening group match in the Premier Cup.
Goals from Warren Adleford (2), Paul Wilson and Dan Horiba put Old Headington in charge.
But Church stormed back through Paul Wildman (2) and Leon West to set up a nail-biting finish.
Barton crashed 6-1 at home to Cavalier, but scored the goal of the game through Mark Johnson who netted from the centre circle.
In the Doug Hobbs Cup, for named Division 1 teams, North Oxford Res thrashed Nuffield Arms 7-1 at Sandy Lane.
Player-manager Tom Denton set them on the way, Adel Fawaz and Tobias Webster scored two apiece and Nick Green and Craig Hanlon completed the rout. Tony Richens pulled one back for Nuffield.
