Two stewards appointed to pep up entertainment and fundraising at Carterton Town Football Club have been dismissed.

Colin Brown and Kevin Rose were told to quit the premises of the club by chairman Bob Taylor.

Just months ago the pair, well-known in the town for staging the Carterton centenary and Millennium celebrations 2000, were nominated by the club for a Steward of the Year competition.

They were due to attend the finals in Birmingham next month. They have now been told they are disqualified.

Details of their sudden dismissal have not been revealed to the Oxford Mail, but Mr Taylor confirmed the pair had gone.

Mr Taylor said: "It is disappointing for the club that they have gone. It is not a case of misappropriation, but I will not go any further."

The two stewards have been stunned by their sacking. Mr Brown said: "We are upset and just very confused.

"We have had a disagreement with a couple of committee members but can't say more than that. It is now in the hands of our solicitors."

He and Mr Rose run a showbiz promotion company, Brown-Rose Productions.

They were both born and brought up in Carterton and leapt to fame in the town with their raunchy hen nights.

The former window cleaners hit the headlines when the male strippers they had booked for a hen night failed to turn up. To avoid disappointing several hundred women in the audience, they took to the stage themselves.

The duo are in talks with Carterton Town Council to stage another event for the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
