Carshalton Ath 2, Thame Utd 2
A sensational goal two minutes from time from Rob Smith earned Thame a point after a spirited fight back last night.
Smith spotted the Carshalton keeper Denver McKenzie off his line, and blasted a 45-yard thunderbolt into the top corner to seal a draw for Thame, after they were 2-0 down inside half an hour at Colston Avenue.
The home side produced some sparkling football early on, but there was an element of luck in the opening goal.
In the 14th minute, a hopeful cross from Nick Hegley struck James Saulsbury and, with Alan Foster wrong-footed, the ball crept agonisingly over the line.
Carshalton stepped up a gear and doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Marvyn Watson broke through. Although Foster parried well, Watson chipped the rebound into the empty net.
United began to apply some pressure of their own and on the stroke of half time, they pulled one back when Danny Moore handled in the box and Mark Jones fired home the spot kick.
After the break, Thame looked the better side and in the 52nd minute, Mark Avery crossed but Wayne Cort was unable to apply the finish.
Thame continued to search for an equaliser and finally got the reward for their hard work in the 88th minute with Smith's high quality strike.
**Thame: Foster, Saulsbury, Avery, Brown, Williams, Lee, Potter (Perna 60), Jones, Smith, Cort, Swaysland (West 75). Sub not used: Bradley.
