Bus shelters and improved waiting areas for passengers will be provided in central Oxford thanks to a £150,000 cash boost.
The 19 new shelters and two refurbished ones will be installed at bus stops in Castle Street, Speedwell Street, St Aldate's, New Road, Park End Street, and George Street.
Oxfordshire County Council is funding the work, while Oxford City Council will maintain the shelters.
Recent surveys have found that 44 per cent of people travel to Oxford city centre by bus or park and ride, compared to 39 per cent by car.
Noel Newson, county council group manager for sustainable transport, said: "In time, we want to erect shelters at every bus stop in the city centre if possible."
