Oxfordshire's Tim Henman moved into the quarter-finals of the £2m Masters Series tennis event in Stuttgart after beating Nicolas Lapentti 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
Seventh seed Henman, from Weston-on-the-Green, will now face Germany's Tommy Haas, who saw off Hicham Arazi, a surprise second-round victor over Andre Agassi.
Henman hit just three aces during the hour and 37 minutes he was on court against Lapentii, but that was balanced by not a single double-fault.
The British No 1 said: "My serve is coming together a little better now, and all the work Larry Stefanki and I have done is slowly starting to pay off.
"To go through the match with no breaks against me is good for the confidence and I'm looking forward to the quarter-finals."
