Good Samaritan David Jarvis stepped in to help after vandals targeted a playgroup.
Vandals wrecked a wooden and concrete ramp leading to the playgroup's portable building at Drayton near Abingdon.
A large bill looked likely until Mr Jarvis, a builder, stepped in and repaired the ramp free of charge.
Social services also agreed the group could use a ramp leading into the back of the building. Without the approval the group would have had to cancel sessions until the front ramp was repaired.
Mr Jarvis, of Abingdon Road, Drayton, said: "Two of my youngsters used to attend the playgroup so I know what a valuable facility it is.
"Every penny counts for the playgroup. I was so mad when I heard about this that I offered to help."
The playgroup, which has 18 children, considered claiming the repairs on insurance but the policy has a £250 excess - which would have hit plans for new equipment and toys.
Police questioned a youth in connection with the incident and he has been bailed to return to Abingdon police station later this month.
