Banbury Utd 2, Fisher Ath 0
A penalty save from keeper Simon Tricker and two opportunist goals helped Banbury to beat Dr Martens League Eastern Division promotion contenders Fisher in their best display of the season on Saturday.
Banbury took the lead in the 17th minute when a ball from George Redknap was brilliantly touched on by Jody McKay, around the last defender, into Ben Milner's path. The young striker took the ball between Steve Aris and 'keeper Maurice Munden before slotting it home
The home side suffered a double blow when, in the space of a minute, they lost both Jimmy Simpson and Andy Wallbridge to injury, but such was the measure of United's confidence, their replacements, Matty Travers and Mark Essex ensured that the injured players were not missed.
Things could have changed in the 64th minute when Fisher were awarded a penalty, after McKay was harshly adjudged to have fouled a forward on the edge of the area. However, Ray Powell's powerful spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Tricker.
Banbury could have been forgiven if they had sat back to try and consolidate their one-goal lead, but they continued to play in all areas of the pitch.
This was rewarded in the 81st minute. McKay again went up the left and cut inside before releasing the ball to the unmarked Redknap who shot past the stranded Munden from 12 yards
