After 17 years' service, a thriving over-60s lunch club in Oxford may be forced to close.
The retirement of the two volunteers who have been providing meals twice a month for members at the Ferry Centre, Diamond Place, Summertown, means there is a danger that the club will not be able to continue.
Barbara Bush and Sheila Glazebrook are now appealing for volunteers to take over their duties.
Mrs Glazebrook said: "We are very anxious to find volunteers to keep this thriving club going. The club not only provides a good, hot meal but also a social outlet for many elderly people who live on their own.
"Although we feel the time has come to retire, we are doing so with a considerable amount of sadness. It has been very enjoyable."
The club has around 50 members who meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. There is a charge of £1.50 per two-course meal but volunteer cooks are needed.
There is already an extensive back-up team at the centre to prepare vegetables, lay tables, wash up and drive club members to and from the Ferry Centre.
Mrs Glazebrook said: "If you can cook for four you can cook for 40, it's just a case of multiplying."
