Stuart Douglas believes he could be the man who will solve Oxford United's goalscoring crisis.

The 23-year-old striker has been brought in by U's boss Mark Wright on a month's loan, and made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Carlisle at The Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.

And although the dreadlocked frontman was starved of any real goalscoring chances that night, he says that he is looking forward to his spell at the club., and getting first-team games under his belt.

Douglas has scored 23 goals in 122 starts for Luton, and is seen by Wright as the man to put an end to U's crisis in front of goal, where only four teams in Division 3 have scored fewer goals this season.

"I got the call on Monday that Oxford wanted to take me and I jumped at the chance," Douglas said.

Replacement

"I've not been playing at Luton, I've just been a sub. The gaffer (Joe Kinnear) does things his own way there, and we had a chat and I said I'd like to go somewhere to get some first-team football.

"The reason I came to Oxford is because they play football. They try to pass it, and are organised."

Douglas has joined United as a replacement for Andy Scott, who is still out with a hamstring injury, but is slowly on the mend.

With the U's guilty of squandering numerous chances of late, Wright says that in Douglas, the club have a player who will do a good job for his side.

"He's quick, strong, and a natural centre forward," he said. "He gets in behind defences, and will play off Paul Moody and cause defenders problems."With Andy Scott out for another month or so, we needed someone up front, and Stuart will do a good job for us. He twists and turns and did well against us at Luton this season."

Douglas admits he is uncertain about his future after his month at United is up, but says while he's at the club, he'll give it his all.

"It's a new experience for me because I've been at Luton for all my life, but it's a chance for me to put myself in the spotlight and I'm really looking forward to it," he said.

"I didn't really get an opportunity on Tuesday - Brooksy sent over a great cross from the right and I just couldn't get there.

"I don't know what's going to happen after the month - it depends on how well I do, how I gel with the other lads, and if I impres Mr Wright."
