Histon 2, Banbury Utd 1

BANBURY United looked set to take a point from their trip to Histon in the Dr Martens Easter Division on Saturday, but succumbed to a goal in the last minute.

On a very heavy pitch, Banbury had an early shock when Histon took the lead in the third minute. A corner was only partly cleared and when it went back in, Peter Munns made no mistake.

Banbury came under more pressure, Gary Walker's superb header hitting the angle of the post and crossbar before being cleared.

Ben Milner and Tony Joyce both tested home keeper Paul Barber with good efforts, but Histon looked dangerous every time they attacked, relying heavily on their obvious height advantage in the box.

At the other end, Jimmy Simpson was causing Histon some problems and was working well with George Redknap in midfield.

In a highly entertaining first ten minutes of the second half, great defending by Keiran Sullivan and Joyce denied Histon, while Matty Gooderick saw his cross whipped away from Milner's head by Barber.

Banbury almost found the equaliser in the 56th minute. Gooderick sent over an excellent cross that found Jody McKay, but his effort came back off the upright.

After Banbury keeper Simon Tricker had produced a double save with his legs, the visitors equalised in the 65th minute. A great flick-on by Milner left Gooderick to beat the Histon defence and fire his shot under Barber.

Banbury looked the more likely to break the deadlock in the closing stages, but in the 90th minute, the ball broke to Neil Kennedy, who fired home the winner from the edge of the penalty area.
