More than 35 firefighters were called to tackle a bedroom fire in a tower block in Oxford last night.
The blaze, on the seventh floor of Forester Tower on Wood Farm Road, is believed to have been caused by a cigarette end smouldering on bedding.
Four fire crews from Oxford's Slade Park and Rewley Road stations were called out shortly after 9.30pm, and were joined by others from Wheatley and the rescue tender from the Kidlington headquarters.
Residents were temporarily evacuated from smoke-logged flats on the same floor, but after fire officers carried out safety checks, other families were allowed to remain. No-one was hurt in the incident.
