Dennis Butler kept up the magnificent record of the George (Littlemore) in the Singles Trophy when beating Dennis Sellar 2-1 at the Morrells of Oxford League's finals night at the Rover Cowley Social Club.

George have provided ten singles champions in the past 11 years, and 13 since 1985, when Mick Beane started the charge.

And after last year's poor final, the standard was back to its best as Sellar, a finalist in four events and already a winner in three, was confidently expected to make it four out of four

However, Butler, the champion in 1994, was up for the battle.

Sellar set four in the first leg and Butler replied in kind, taking the leg to three sticks. They hit two each, forcing a one-stick decider which Butler won.

Butler set four in the next, but Sellar came good with a cracking fiver and it was all square.

In the final leg, Butler again set where his four dolls proved just too much for the busy Sellar who was champion way back in 1982.

Watched by a sell-out crowd of 400, Tree B, Iffley got the night off to a cracking start by beating Gladiators A in the Jim Whitbread Trophy.

Dunn and dusted could be the appropriate term as young Robert Dunn hit his first ever six in the second leg to put Tree all square after a 15-11 reverse in the first.

They took the second 26-15, and in the final leg, brother Richard hit a five which knocked the stuffing out of the Gladiators.

Paul and David Townsend (Rowing Machine) won the Parent & Child Trophy for the third year running,

Sellar started his hat-trick of final wins as part of the Cricketers B side who beat their A side 2-0 in the Morrells Cup eight-a-side competition.

Sellar then collected the Pairs title along with Phil Wilkins as they saw off Colin Whittaker and Kevin Giles (George) 2-0 where Sellar hit 6,5.

Rowing Machine put up a good fight against hot favourites Cricketers B in the Monty Greenaway Shield, forcing the contest to three sticks in the first leg before going down 2-0.
