A troubled technology firm which this year cut hundreds of jobs has revealed its losses have doubled while sales revenue has plummeted.

Bookham Technology said its revenues had fallen by 59 per cent to £2.4m in the last three months.

It also saw its pre-tax loss increase to more than £13m - twice the figure recorded in the same period last year.

The company, which makes telecom components, is based in Abingdon and employs more than 600 workers.

Bookham management said there was little chance of an immediate improvement.

Bookham has made around 250 people redundant at Abingdon and its Swindon manufacturing plant in the last year.
