Witnesses in the trial of two brothers accused of attacking police told a court they did not see the crucial blow.
At Oxford Crown Court, John Cronin, 29, of Kingsclere Road, Bicester, denies actual bodily harm and assault with intention to resist arrest, in an incident on March 25.
Daniel Cronin, 33, of Bassett Avenue, Bicester, denies common assault. Both men deny a further charge of affray.
Pc Philip Hollioake told the court that when he and Pc Nick Parker attempted to question the brothers about an incident involving a lorry driver in Sheep Street, they were aggressive and Daniel Cronin struck both officers.
Pc Hollioake said John Cronin hit him four or five times.
The bodily harm charge is based on an injury to Pc Parker, which caused a cut below his left eye and needed two stitches, but neither of the officers nor other witnesses saw the blow land.
Pc Steven Lack said he arrested John Cronin because he "assumed" he was responsible. The case continues.
