Nobby Stiles, one of England's 1966 World Cup heroes, entertained a packed audience at Kidlington FC's annual sportsmen's dinner.

The tough-tackling midfielder went down a treat with an audience of around 150, as he related a series of anecdotes from his life at the top with Manchester United and England.

Stiles, who described Real Madrid ace Alfredo De Stefano as the best player he came up against, won 28 caps for England and made 392 appearances for United, winning two league titles and a European Cup.

Kidlington chairman Geoff Talboys explained that the evening was vitally important to the Hellenic League club.

"It is our biggest fund-raising event of the year and we thank everyone who comes, especially our sponsors," he said.

Former Liverpool defender Tommy Smith has already been booked as guest speaker next year.
