Health care services at Wantage Hospital will come under scrutiny from managers in order to decide if the hospital should be relocated to another site.
South West Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust will look at moving it to the new Wantage Health Centre site if the review concludes keeping it at its existing location would lead to patient care suffering.
The hospital has just undergone a £160,000 face-lift.
Plans for the new health centre, off Mably Way in Grove, include planning permission for a hospital. But trust chief executive Mary Wicks said it had not made a decision yet on whether to move to another site.
Wantage's town centre doctors' surgeries support a move to Grove.
Sandy Fisken, the business manager of the Newbury Street practice in Wantage, said: "To GPs it makes sense if all the facilities of Wantage are on one site."
Cllr Jenny Hannaby, the Mayor of Wantage and a member of the League of Friends of Wantage Hospital, welcomed the review, but said: "If it wasn't here, our people would have to go further afield."
**Lloyds Pharmacy, in Market Place, Wantage, has applied for permission to move to the planned Health Centre in Mably Way, Grove. A decision will be made by the Pharmacy Group of Oxfordshire Health Authority after a period of consultation.
