A former Oxfordshire county councillor died after suffering a pelvis injury in a car crash in eastern Europe.
An inquest heard Bob Morgan, a former member of Oxfordshire county and South Oxfordshire district councils, was visiting his son, who worked in the Republic of Slovakia, when the accident happened.
He was flown home by air ambulance with a fractured and dislocated thigh bone, but suffered a blood clot on the lung while being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and died 16 days later in November, 1999.
Yesterday's inquest heard that Mr Morgan's son Richard was driving to the town of Trencin, when the car collided head-on with another vehicle, killing a woman and injuring three people.
Richard Morgan escaped with minor injuries, but was arrested and charged with manslaughter by the Slovakian police.
The case against him is continuing.
Bob Morgan, a 69-year-old retired cobbler, also of The Forty, Cholsey, was married to the leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, Jan Morgan.
Oxfordshire coroner Nicholas Gardiner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
