A nightclub DJ who strangled his teenage girlfriend in a fit of jealousy has been jailed for life for murder.

The body of care worker Ziggy Fisher, 19, was found in Hithercroft Road, Wallingford, on November 2 last year.

David Weller, 35, of Bridgwater, Somerset, had admitted killing Miss Fisher but denied murder, claiming manslaughter on the grounds of provocation.

During the three-day trial, the court heard how Weller had strangled Miss Fisher, also from Bridgwater, when she tried to end their year-long relationship during a row at his flat on October 30.

Neil Ford, prosecuting, said Weller "lost his temper" and strangled Miss Fisher before smashing her over the head with a glass.

He then put her body in his car and drove off, sparking a nationwide police search. After two days, Weller telephoned police and said he had killed Miss Fisher.

Weller told the court he had "flipped" after Miss Fisher told him she was going to end their relationship and claimed she planned to sleep with other men to taunt him.

Sentencing Weller, Mrs Justice Hallett said: "You deliberately throttled the life out of the woman you claimed to love."
