TV scientist Heniz Wolff hosted the fifth consecutive Great Egg Race challenge at Oxford Brookes University on Saturday.
Each year, Prof Wolff, left, invents a different challenge for competitors, who include engineers, students, scientists and participants from many other professions. Nine teams took part.
This year's task was to produce a tea-making machine from materials provided by the judges, including beer cans, batteries, kitchen roll and cling film.
Prof Wolff said: "The problems I set often produce some very ingenious devices. It's a challenge to produce the most workable solution within given time constraints, resources and skills, and it always produces some very creative yet practical out- comes."
A team from Brunel University was this year's winners.
