A new £1m route control centre at Banbury railway station will help integrate train, bus and taxi links.
It is the first purpose-built operations room completed since Rail privatisation in the mid-1990s and brings under one roof all the functions necessary to run a safe and reliable railway.
The Integrated Control Centre was paid for by Chiltern Railways under its new 20-year franchise deal on the London Marylebone to Birmingham Snow Hill route.
It means Chiltern will be able to work more closely with Railtrack, maintenance contractors and other rail companies to keep services on time on the route, which also serves Bicester and Haddenham & Thame Parkway.
Staff will monitor the running of trains, supply information to passengers if there are problems and supervise connections with buses and taxis.
Chiltern Railways is preparing to introduce dedicated connecting bus services from stations on its route. The first will run from Bicester North.
