Mark Wright wants to bring in a midfield general to strengthen Oxford United. After watching his injury and suspension-ravaged team twice come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with York City at The Kassam Stadium on Saturday, Wright said he thought the U's lacked a leader in the middle of the park.

"The problem is, we've got young boys - we've got Conference players. I would like to bring in a midfield player who I spoke to the chairman about a long time ago.

"He's a real leader. He would snap around, bully people, demand more of people, and I think we've been missing that in a lot of games this year.

"You can make all the excuses in the world, but we're missing people like Darren Patterson, who's a leader.

"Maybe it's time to speak to the chairman."

However, Wright may find it tough after comments from Firoz Kassam in his progamme notes for the game.

He wrote: "Our wage bill for the players is one of the highest in this division.

"I believe at this current time, the solution is not to bring in more new players to the club. We have some very talented players here already."
