Banbury Utd 1, Windsor & Eton 0

BANBURY United booked a second-round tie in the FA Trophy at home to Dr Martens League Premier Division Cambridge City with a hard-earned victory over Windsor at The Stadium on Saturday.

The only goal of a poor game came in the 21st minute through leading scorer Matty Gooderick, and it proved enough to see off a Royalists team who belied their lowly position in Ryman Division 1.

Banbury looked to have taken the lead in the fourth minute when Ben Milner rose above everyone to head powerfully over keeper Trevor Bunting and under the crossbar, only to be adjudged offside.

The breakthrough came in the 21st minute. A long ball out of defence was brilliantly headed on by Milner into the path of Gooderick, who took one touch before smashing an unstoppable shot past Bunting.

To their credit, Windsor kept their heads up, and started to take the game to United. It took a brilliant save from Simon Tricker to deny them an equaliser in the 34th minute from Eddie Gray's fierce angled drive.

The second half was an anti-climax as both teams were guilty of giving the ball away.

In the 50th minute, Banbury went close when Gooderick's six-yard effort was charged down by Bunting.

From the resulting flag-kick, the ball fell to Gooderick again, but this time he completely mis-kicked in front of an open goal.

At the other end, Windsor put on plenty of pressure, but United's defence, superbly marshalled by Kieran Sullivan and the fit-again Chick Wallbridge, held firm.
