Students will be given the opportunity to travel on remote expeditions with help from a £25,000 award in memory of Wallace Watson.
After yesterday's inquest, his family and friends launched the Wallace Watson Award to fund annual expeditions across the world.
Mr Watson's family want to help students from St Catherine's College to journey to remote and wilderness regions.
Each year, one student will be given £1,000 to embark on travels of a challenging nature to "foster an inner strength of character".
Sir Peter Williams, Master of St Catherine's College, said: "Wallace was a very popular member of the college community who had made many friends and earned a reputation as a hard-working student during his time at Oxford.
"Friends, tutors and staff at St Catherine's were shocked and saddened by Wallace's tragic death in February this year.
"Our thoughts are once again with Wallace's family and friends at this difficult time."
