Membership of the successful Harwell Scouts is expanding so fast that the group is in desperate need of more leaders.

Group leader of the 1st Harwell Brian Zimmerman said: "We try not to turn away any young people who want to join - but that means we need more leaders for the beaver colonies, the cubs, scouts and the new explorers and venture scouts."

The current leadership team totals 15, responsible for more than 120 beavers, cubs and scouts aged from six to 18.

Because of pressure to cater for new cubs due to leave Harwell's two beaver colonies when they reach the age of eight, Mr Zimmerman said they want to form a second cub pack early in the New Year.

"That means we need at least two leaders and possibly three to share responsibility," said Mr Zimmerman.

Mr Zimmerman said a background in scouting was not necessary for potential leaders.

He particularly appealed for help from parents whose children are members of the group to come forward.

Anyone who can help out should call Mr Zimmerman on 01235 83344 or drop in at a pack meeting. They are held at St Matthew's Church Hall on Monday evenings, from 6.30pm to 7.45pm.
