The chances of Oxford United's Division 3 game at Gay Meadow going ahead this Saturday appeared slim as Shrewsbury Town announced they were to hold a pitch inspection at 1pm tomorrow.
The two clubs have already agreed on a rearranged date should the match be called off.
It would be next Tuesday, January 8, kick-off 7.45.
Weather conditions in Shrewsbury have been very cold over the last few days, and the forecast is for much of the same until the weekend.
There is still snow lying on the pitch, terraces, car parks and access road.
An announcement on the Shrewsbury Town website today stated: "We are trying to make an early decision to stop supporters making unnecessary and wasted journeys."
Many Oxford United fans had already set out for Rushden on New Year's Day when that game was called off just after 12pm.
Whether the game takes place on Saturday or Tuesday, the Shrews will be without 14-goal leading scorer Luke Rodgers who is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season just before Christmas.
