Abingdon Tn 3, Bracknell Tn 1
Abingdon moved off the Ryman Division 3 basement with an excellent victory over promotion-chasing Bracknell, who had scored 11 goals in their previous two away games.
On a sticky surface, Abingdon moved out of the bottom three with Mark Scanes bagging a brace of goals.
His first came on 18 minutes when an excellent through ball from Tristan Didcock sent Scanes clear and he steered the ball past Bracknell keeper Martin Hutt
Bracknell hit back when James Flynn rounded keeper Mickey Torres, but his ball back across goal was scrambled away, and then Neil Baker was just wide with a shot.
Scanes blasted just over the bar after good work from Paul Sherwood.
In the second half, Bracknell dominated the early exchanges, Flynn going close, and Torres tipping over a free-kick.
Abingdon grabbed a second goal on 62 minutes. After a free-kick, Scanes was chopped down in the box, but with the referee just about to blow for a penalty, Jon Muttock drilled the ball home from eight yards.
Goal No 3 came on 75 minutes when Jason Thomas sent over a superb cross which was met by Scanes at full stretch and he got just enough on the ball to send it looping over Hutt.
With three minutes left, Bracknell pulled a goal back through substitute Kris Day, but it did little to dampen Abingdon's celebrations as they made it seven wins in the last 12 games in all competitions.
Abingdon: Torres, Thomas, Smith, Beauchamp, Muttock, Watts (Burden), Didcock (Field), Charles (Trinder), Sherwood, Greig, Scanes.
