Thame Utd 1, Uxbridge 0
Thame got back to winning ways with a thoroughly deserved victory at the Windmill Stadium in Ryman League Division 1.
Jefferson Louis and Justin Merritt both went close in the opening ten minutes for Thame, while Wayne Cort was also proving a handful for the Uxbridge defence.
The pace of Louis in particular caused panic in the Uxbridge rearguard, as he had a shot deflected over and a right foot drive which was inches wide.
Louis should have opened the scoring in the 40th minute after Danny Curran's right wing cross was flicked on by Cort, the big striker beat Uxbridge keeper Wells to the ball but blazed over, with the goal at his mercy.
On the stroke of half-time, Wells came to the visitors rescue, making a good save from the energetic Nando Perna.
Perna was not to be denied and scored what was ultimately the winning goal three minutes after the break and it was a goal of real quality.
Louis won the ball and found Wayne Cort, the big frontman's astute pass into the run of Perna was perfect, with the midfielder firing past Wells from 18 yards.
Justin Merritt saw his goal bound shot blocked midway through the second half and Wells produced another fine save from Chris Potter as United looked for the decisive second goal.
Alan Foster saved from Stuart Bamford late on but the result was never in doubt. The only negative point for Thame was the loss of captain Martin Brown with a hamstring injury.
Thame: Foster, Saulsbury, Lee, Brown (Avery 82), Williams, Merritt, Curran, Potter (Abassi 78), Louis, Cort (West 88), Perna.
