Two pedestrian crossings are expected to be fully operational by the end of the month.
Work has just started on the second crossing at Southwold Lane, near the Banbury Road roundabout, much to the delight of parents and children at Southwold Primary School, Holm Square, Bicester.
At the moment people crossing from Caversfield village to the housing estate have to use small traffic islands at each end of busy Southwold Lane.
Oxford County Council highways department says traffic lights are due to be installed within the next two weeks and the work is expected to be finished by January 26.
