Cherry Red Records Hellenic League

North Leigh 4, Brackley Tn 4

Saturday's Premier Division game at Eynsham Park produced some top-class entertainment in a eight-goal thriller.

Brackley, the only team to have lowered North Leigh's colours in the league so far this season, started like an express train and were two goals up inside 20 minutes through Rydian Purnell and Frankie Dorrian.

North Leigh's Andy McCabe pulled a goal back before the break, heading in from a pin-point Harry Burnley cross.

Seven minutes into the second half, Matt Hendra levelled the scores, impudently returning a long punched clearance back over the Brackley keeper's head.

In an end-to-end finish, Brackley went ahead again with a second goal from Dorrian in the 63rd minute, but almost immediately, Burnley crashed home a tremendous 20-yard drive to level the scores again.

This was swiftly followed by a second opportunist strike from McCabe to put North Leigh ahead for the first time in the match.

Brackley were still not done however, and Andrew Parrott headed the equaliser from a free kick three minutes from time to claim a deserved share of the points.

Yate Tn 2, Carterton Tn 1

Carterton frustrated leaders Yate for much of the game and deserved a share of the points.

The visitors took the lead after half an hour when Yate keeper Tony Court failed to clear a back pass and blasted the ball against the advancing John Andrew, who collected the rebound and placed the ball in the corner of the net.

Five minutes into the second half, pressure on the Carterton goal saw Davidge go down in the penalty area, which resulted in a controversial penalty which Martin Boyle converted to level the scores.

Ten minutes later, Carterton's defence was caught flat-footed when Tony Bennett found himself alone in the area and he struck the ball past Heritage to give Yate the lead.

Carterton rallied and had chances to level the score through O'Connor and Mortimer-Jones, but time ran out.

Tuffley Rov 2, Didcot Tn 6

This was a game that had almost everything - eight goals, a sending-off, a hat-trick, two penalties scored and another brilliantly saved!

The visitors set the tone for the afternoon by notching a goal after only two minutes, Andy Marriott heading home Dave Beaven's corner.

Tuffley hit back when Cooper lobbed keeper Gareth Walker, but Didcot made it 2-1 in the 40th minute through Damien Oglesby.

A minute before the break, home defender Steve Summerell handled in the box and Ian Concannon calmly slotted home from the spot.

Rovers then reduced the arrears in first-half stoppage time through Gary Cornwall.

Didcot looked in total control after the break as Dwaine Strong began to cause havoc on the right flank.

Town's Jon-Paul Bailey and Tuffley's Summerell were both cautioned for mistimed challenges, before the latter was dismissed for a crude challenge on Strong which resulted in a second yellow card. Concannon slotted home his second penalty.

Concannon then turned provider in the 70th minutes for Oglesby, and with a minute left on the clock, Concannon got Town's sixth goal to complete his hat-trick.

Less than a minute later, Didcot were rewarded their third penalty of the game but Oglesby was denied by Newman's tremendous save.

Abingdon Utd 1, Bishop's Cleeve 1

Abingdon were caught out again by a late goal which means they have taken only two points from nine in their last three matches at Northcourt Road.

It was nothing more than Cleeve deserved, as they created more chances.

Abingdon could not get into any sort of rhythm against Cleeve's uncompromising style and it was against the run of play when they took the lead.

The visitors failed to clear a corner and Luke Brandon hit a shot into the bottom corner on the half-volley.

In time added on, there was uproar as a Cleeve player received his marching orders for abuse to a linesman, and their manager was also sent off after coming on to the pitch.

When play eventually restarted, Cleeve's Hill scored from the edge of the area to grab a point in the eighth minute of time added on.

Nine-man Amateurs hold on

Division 1

Headington Am 2, Clanfield 1

Amateurs deserved the Division 1 West points after a battling display which saw them reduced to nine men for the last 15 minutes.

The home side took the lead through Baldwin after 12 minutes, but then had Phillips sent off three minutes later for a two-footed lunge on Rob Whalley.

The visitors created and squandered many second-half chances, even when Headington had Gavin Brandon sent off for a professional foul.

With five minutes left, Amateurs increased their lead through Tutton, and Jason Court's consolation in stoppage time was too late for Clanfield.

Malmsbury 5 Letcombe 2

Letcombe started well enough at Malmesbury but then conceded four in the second half to leave them stranded at the bottom of the table.

Letcombe's goals came from James Simms and David Rees.

Pewsey Vale 4, Kidlington 1

Poor defending after the break cost Kidlington dearly after a close first half ended at 1-1.

Pewsey's Craig Wall opened the scoring on 15 minutes when he pounced on some slack defending and then Mick McNally then rattled the Kidlington crossbar.

Frazer Gills made it 1-1 with a 25-yard free kick on 25 minutes and then Kidlington's Lee Bolton struck the underside of the Pewsey bar.

Disaster then struck with more dire defending by Kidlington, Wall scoring two more goals in ten minutes, before finishing off the move of the match with No 4.

RS Basingstoke 2, Milton Utd 2

Milton continued their challenge for promotion from Division 1 East with a hard-fought draw at RS Basingstoke.

The visitors controlled most of the play but were unable to finish numerous chances created.

Basingstoke top scorer Bristow put his side ahead on 18 minutes and Cook headied their second after the break.

This seemed to inspire Milton who pulled one back when Andy Brown was fouled in the area on 61 minutes and Paul Davis converted the penalty.

Basingstoke had a player sent off for punching, before Brown grabbed a deserved equaliser after 80 minutes.
