Bromley 1, Oxford City 0
City slumped to a disappointing Ryman Division 1 defeat on Saturday as their failure to take advantage of all their possession cost them dearly when Bromley broke away to notch a shock winner with ten minutes left.
Despite all their dominance, City's neat approach work foundered on the edge of the box, and it was only late on when home keeper Harwood was tested.
John Mitchell shot over in the second minute and then had a good effort blocked as City made all the early running.
A fine run by Kelvin McIntosh saw him beat several defenders only for his powerful low drive to flash past a post.
City keeper Stuart Nelson made his first save from a header by McGowan, but most of the action was at the other end, Mitchell firing wide just before the interval.
Andy Smith and Mark Druce went close as City continued to dominate after the break, and the home team survived several corners and free kicks.
It was from another corner when Smith's goalbound header rebounded away off the back of a defender's head, and City suffered a bitter blow in the 80th minute.
They gave away an unnecessary corner which glanced off a head to Harris, who nodded home off the crossbar.
City still had chances to get on the target in the last ten minutes. Steve Arkins cut in to bring a good save from Harwood, and then crossed for Jemaine Ferreira, who saw a good effort clutched by the keeper.
City's frustration was complete in the last minute when Ferreira crossed to Matty Whitehead whose glancing header was saved high to his left by Harwood.
Oxford C: Nelson, Farley, Whitehead, Smith, Thorp, Woodhouse, McIntosh, Holder (Arkins 75), Mitchell (Wise 65), Druce (Fontaine 71), Ferreira.
Referee: M Wood.
Oxford City Reserves beat Ardley Res 4-1 in the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup third round with goals from Shaun Wimble, Daniel Morgan, Lee Hewlett and Darren Clare.
