Proposals for a new Witney to Oxford rail link are to come under scrutiny soon.
A long-awaited report on the scheme, prepared by consultants, is now in the hands of county council officers.
Details are not yet being released but the man who first revived the idea of the public transport link called for a decision to be made quickly.
Paul Wesson, district councillor for Carterton, said: "The Government is saying that there will be more money for the railways. All we are asking for is about ten miles of track.
"You only have to listen to the radio most mornings and hear that the road from Witney to Oxford is blocked with traffic to know that this could be the answer.
"We have been waiting for this report for months and we need to know whether it is feasible and where we are going."
The former branch line between Oxford, Witney and Fairford was closed in the 1960s.
Mr Wesson has suggested that if the Oxford to Witney link were revived, it could be extended to Carterton, the second largest town in west Oxfordshire.
The feasibility study was presented to the county council just before Christmas and will be debated by county and district councillors early next month.
