Oxford Harlequins' head coach Matt Maudsley seems likely to lead from the front when his side take on Hertford in the sixth round of the Powergen Intermediate Cup at Horspath Road tomorrow (2pm).
The former Henley captain has missed most of the season with a knee injury, but he made such an impact at fly-half against Milton Keynes in Southern Counties North last Saturday, that he is considering taking his place on the field again.
Maudsley scored 26 points, including two tries, in the 76-10 massacre.
"I was originally not going to play against Hertford," said Maudsley. "But the response from other players was good and they are keen for me to carry on.
"The knee felt OK, and I might well play."
That would be unlucky on Chris Penney, who has played virtually all the season at stand-off.
But having a player of Maudsley's great experience could prove invaluable as Quins seek a place in the quarter-finals of a national competition for the first time.
Promotion is still their main priority, but the run in this cup is proving an exciting bonus.
They will certainly start as underdogs against Hertford, the unbeaten leaders of London Division 2 South, who play one grade higher than Quins.
However, Chinnor coach Lynn Evans, whose side were beaten 29-19 by Hertford in the previous round, considers Quins have a chance.
Quins have suffered a setback off the field, with a burst pipe, during the recent cold snap, bringing down some of the ceiling in the small bar in their clubhouse.
But that won't affect the celebrations should Quins pull of an unlikely victory!
Henley Hawks travel to second-placed Worcester in search of points as they seek to get away from the bottom of National League 1.
Hawks name the same squad narrowly beaten by Coventry, plus Michael McNair, an Australian who had an excellent game at full back for the Alliance XV at Plymouth Albion.
Philippe Farner earned plaudits on his debut at lock, making the line-outs more competitive.
Oxford University hooker Pete Nicholas, a last-minute replacement for 'flu-hit' Willie Phillips on the bench, also did well when he came on.
Former Hawks' favourite Duncan Roke will be missing from the Worcester line-up as he is out of favour with the selectors.
Banbury Bulls coach Martin Hobley hopes to celebrate his 42nd birthday with a win at Chinnor in a club match tomorrow. Banbury No 8 Rob Cockerton is on the bench, after missing several matches through illness.
