A company that provides connections without wires is on the right wavelength at the Harwell Innovation Centre.

Multicap came into existence in 2000, but thanks to the flexible nature of the centre, it has now expanded without having to move home.

Originally, it was a one-man band working in one room. Now the company employs three people full-time, working in three rooms, and is looking for two more technical staff.

The firm provides networks operated remotely by radio signals in places where cable laying is not a viable option.

High-profile customers include top tourist attraction the London Eye and American giant Microsoft.

At the London Eye, the wireless technology is used to monitor and control the capsules without using unsightly cables.

The company is now a distributor for seven manufacturers.

General manager Colin Bateman said: "We decided to move to the ground floor where we now have the added benefit of a bigger stock room and no stairs."
