A new chancellor has been appointed to head the Diocese of Oxford.
The Worshipful Reverend Dr Rupert Bursell QC, an ecclesiastical lawyer, will succeed the late Peter Boydell.
Dr Bursell was chancellor of the Diocese of Bath and Wells in the late 1980s and held the same position at St Albans and Durham in the 1990s. He will continue to be chancellor of the Diocese of Durham and sit as a judge in Bristol.
A service of welcome was held for Dr Bursell at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, on Saturday during which the Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Rev Richard Harries, thanked Dr Frank Robson, who was deputy chancellor after Mr Boydell's death.
