OXFORD United winger Joey Beauchamp has revealed that he is applying for membership of MENSA, partly to prove to people that he's not stupid, writes JON MURRAY.
Beauchamp said that his long injury lay-off this season had given him time to look at things other than football.
"I've had a lot of time on my hands this season, and I saw a MENSA test in something I was reading. I got that right, so I sent off for a bigger test, and the results were so good that I went on to a final test, a written one, which was quite tough, but I did pretty well. My score is the top two per cent apparently, which means I can apply for membership.
"I guess I have always been good with numbers and figures, because I took my Maths 'O' level a year early and passed that. I was thinking about a career in accountancy if I hadn't made it as a footballer."
