Burning Impulse, bought for 120,000 guineas, burst a number of big reputations when making a winning debut over hurdles for Banbury trainer Paul Webber at Kempton on Saturday.
With the favourite Londoner unseating Tom Scudamore at the third flight in the January Juvenile Novices' Hurdle, Burning Impulse made steady headway through the field under Tom Doyle before pulling clear to beat Domirome by four lengths.
A useful performer on the Flat for Jeremy Noseda, the four-year-old was bought by Dublin solicitor Patrick Delaney at the Horses in Training sale last Autumn.
And Webber said: "It was a thrill to get him as he was the absolute nap of the sales."
Burning Impulse is now a 20-1 chance from 40-1 for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
West Lockinge trainer Henrietta Knight missed seeing her stable pet, Red Blazer, score an impressive victory in the opening Twickenham Novices' Chase - as she was in Ireland looking at point-to- pointers.
Winning rider Jim Culloty completed a double aboard King On The Run.
