Thomas Brimblecombe of Oxford, took a step closer to achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a professional racing driver on Sunday, as he progressed into the third and final preliminary round of the 2001 Michelin Renault Scholarship.
Now his sights are firmly set on winning the overall prize of a fully-funded season in the 2002 Elf Clio Renaultsport Cup, worth in excess of £80,000.
Brimblecombe has proved his worth behind the wheel as he passed through the first two preliminary rounds, impressing the team of judges with his handling of a 2.0-litre Renault Sport Clio.
He said: "I think I've shown my potential over the previous two rounds and am enthusiastic that I can progress to the finals.
"Whatever happens, no one can take the experience or thrill of taking part in the Scholarship away from me."
Ex-touring car and international GT driver, Tim Sugden, set up the Michelin Renault Scholarship in 1996 to uncover new racing talent of the future. The scholarship provides anyone over the age of 17 with the chance to break into motorsport.
