City of Oxford A started the defence of their Home Counties League title with a comprehensive win at the new Aylesbury Aquavale pool.

City finished nearly 100 points clear of their nearest rivals, Corby and Linslade Crusaders, winning a massive 39 of the 50 events.

The B team, competing in the unfashionable 33 metre pool at Luton, beat many first teams of their rivals to record a famous victory and make it a City double on the night.

At Aylesbury, three 14-year-olds scored two victories apiece in the 15 and under age group. Susanna Prince and Laura Prior split the four individual events and, joined by Emma Tolson and Melanie Beckett, won both relays.

There was a similar story with the boys as Joe Canlan-Shaw notched a pair of wins and Neil Crofts and Nick Harbord one apiece. Matthew Pay joined them to take both relays.

The 11/u girls produced another City whitewash as Lizzie McCormack and Carla Prince took two victories apiece and joined by Florina Cormack-Lloyd and Catherine Wood in taking both relays.

The 13/u girls squad of Patience Lewis, Jo Tolson, Pippa Canlan-Shaw and Lauren Evans triumphed in both relays with Canlan-Shaw winning the fly and Lewis storming to victory in both the backstroke and breaststroke, to become City's sixth double winner.

In the open category, Katie Scott and David Denny each recorded a pair of wins.

For many of the B team's young swimmers, Luton was the first experience of a 33-metre pool, but they coped well with Ryan Gallagher scoring debut victories in the 11/under freestyle and butterfly.
