Oxfordshire's stock of Tamil literature has been increased thanks to a donation.
Sixty Tamil language books were presented to the county's libraries on Saturday by east Oxford MP Andrew Smith. The books had been given by Poondi Thulasiaiah Vandiar and supporters of the Oxford Tamil Association as part of the Tamil Pongal Celebration -- harvest festival -- held at the Asian Cultural Centre in Manzil Way, Oxford. The Tamil community has its roots in Sri Lanka and southern India. County council executive member for learning and culture Cllr Neil Fawcett said he welcomed the gift.
