Police in the Chipping Norton area have taken delivery of a new-look vehicle.
The Leyland Daf van has replaced one of the traditional panda cars and is the first of its kind in west and north Oxfordshire.
Police spokesman David Campbell said: "It is a far more flexible vehicle and, importantly for widespread rural areas, it can carry a prisoner in a secure barred section in the rear.
"Prisoners have often ended up being driven miles to a custody block in the back of panda cars."
