A small extension is planned to improve Bicester Community Hospital, pending major plans to build a new £5m hospital on another site in the town.
Brigadier Ian Inshaw, of North East Oxfordshire Primary Health Care Trust, which submitted the planning application, said: "It is only a temporary structure designed to enhance the casualty facility at the Kings End hospital. It will give people a better service in the interim. It will enhance the facility at a minimum cost."
An inquiry over the new hospital is due to start on March 26. Two applications have been submitted for a site off Middleton Stoney Road and west of Oxford Road, one by the health trust and one by the owners of Whitelands Farm.
