Oxford author Colin Dexter returned to the haunt of his world-famous fictional sleuth Inspector Morse yesterday to open a new footbridge near one of his hero's favourite watering holes.
Mr Dexter was joined by villagers to cut a ribbon on the refurbished bridge linking the pub-restaurant with its own private island.
The Trout at Wolvercote has recently re-opened its doors to customers following a three-month £1.2m facelift, which has included improvements to the dining area and repairs to the riverside patio.
Mr Dexter declared it was a great pleasure and privilege to officially open the new bridge.
