The closure of Oxford's Gloucester Green bus station for vital repairs is expected to be agreed by city councillors tomorrow.

The bus station needs repairing because heavy three-axle buses have caused the surface to weaken, threatening the roof of the underground car park.

Emergency repairs were carried out in 2000 after it was revealed that concrete blocks, laid in the late 1980s, had started to slide sideways, but major work is still needed and could cost £200,000.

Councillors at tomorrow's executive board meeting are expected to agree that when repairs are carried out in February and March, a temporary bus station will be provided at the Oxpens coach and lorry park.

A report prepared by officers for the board recommends that a ticket office remain open at Gloucester Green, with a shuttle bus operating between the bus station and Oxpens.
