City of Oxford had a let-off when their Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional match at PHC Chiswick had to be abandoned at half-time - when they were trailing 2-0.
However, the wind would have been behind them in the second half, so they weren't totally out of the match.
Despite the atrocious weather, City started well.
But, as the conditions worsened, so did City's play and Will Warren scored a rare own goal to give Chiswick the lead.
Sweeper Alex Cock then dwelt on a clearance and Chiswick added a second.
However, as sticks began to slip out of the players' hands and the goalmouths started to flood, the game was abandoned. It will be rearranged for later in the season.
Despite a brave second-half recovery, during which they scored four goals, Abingdon fell to a third successive Area Division 1 defeat when they lost 5-4 to Gerrards Cross at Tilsley Park.
Poor Abingdon marking gifted Gerrards Cross three goals in a ten-minute spell midway through the first half, Stuart Suttie, Simon Swerling and Stuart Coulton giving the visitors a comfortable lead at the break.
However, turning around after the half time interval, Abingdon quickly pulled back two goals.
Andy Maunder opened the home side's account with a delicate flick into the far corner, before Matt Leney added a second when he lofted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
But Andy Parker added a fourth for Gerrards Cross with a strike from the edge of the circle, and Suttie forced the ball over the line from close range to make it 5-2.
Morgan pulled one back for Abingdon with a penalty corner strike, before Ron Smith squandered an opportunity to reduce the deficit when he missed a penalty stroke.
With 15 minutes remaining, Kev Smith scored Abingdon's fourth, but Gerrards Cross held on.
Rover Oxford ran riot with a resounding 9-0 home win against Windsor in Area Division 2.
Rover only led 2-0 up at half-time, through Kevin Wharton and an excellent deflected effort by Mervin Poole, before stepping up a gear after the break.
Ali Fry scored No 3, Danny Bleach netted two either side of a Gerald Curran double from short corners, before Poole got his second and Rob Lawrence completed the scoring.
