Tony Henman, father of Oxfordshire tennis star Tim, has been called up by England's Over 60s side for the World Cup in Malaysia, which starts on February 21.
Henman, 61, who has been playing this season for Oxford Hawks Falcons, the second of the club's two veterans teams, will be appearing in his third major championship for England Over 60s.
"I've played in the European Championships twice, once as an under-age player and once as a full age, and we've lost in the final to Germany both times, once on penalties. So, we're hoping to go one better this time," said Henman, a former Oxon county player.
The team is known as the England LX Club because, although they have the blessing of the English Hockey Association, they are not funded by them, and the selection process does not come under the umbrella of English Hockey.
On Sunday, the England side had a warm-up game before going out to Kuala Lumpur, in Oxford against an Oxford Hawks Over 50s side. The encounter finished 1-1.
They have a final preparation briefing session at Cannock next weekend.
