Visitors were given a rare chance to look behind the scenes of a busy police station.

More than 200 people called into St Aldate's police station on Sunday to visit the cells in its newly refurbished custody suite.

The suite opened yesterday, following a £300,000 programme of structural repairs to its 15 cells and two detention rooms.

As part of the open day, the public was also invited to look at a police motorcycle, patrol car and displays outlining different areas of policing.

Supt Keith Ringsell said: "People have been most interested. This is a place many people have ideas about, but can rarely visit because it is occupied."
