A security guard was left with head injuries after being attacked by raiders at a car compound.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the robbery at the Lyehill Quarry car compound, in Wheatley Road, Forest Hill, near Oxford.

Four men entered the compound at 5am on Saturday, and struck the 36-year-old guard over the head. The men then took keys and stole four cars.

The guard, who has not been named, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and treated for a head wound. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Two of the stolen cars, both new VW Golfs, were later recovered in Wheatley.

A black Vauxhall Calibra, which had been stolen earlier the same day in Banbury, was also found near the compound.

The two other cars -- a silver-green Volkswagen Passat registration number LN51 HTD, and a silver Volkswagen Golf GTI, registration LN51 HUH -- are still missing.
